A Clinical Survey and Nursing Care of the Amputee


Abstract
Through analyzing the visited, during the period to 5 months from May 7, to October 2, 1976. The result are summarized as follows:
1. The ratio of male and female was 13:1. The age group of the highest incidence was 20 to 29 containing 46.2%.
2. 71. 8% of all accidents happened to those with less than a middle school education. We conclude that. So in order to reduce the number of accidents we must result to public enlightment and safety education.
3. The causes of traffic accidents were 30. 9%, stone guarry or, mechanical injury was 23.6%,
prevention of traffic and industrial accidents, and expulsive accidents.
For the sake of prevention of these accidents prevention must be taken.
4. The following amputations appeared: B. K amputee as 28. 0%, A. K amputee as 23. 1%, hand 28.0% SO, upper limb=Rt>Lt, lower limb=Lt)Rt.
5. Post operative amputation of occupational selection problem will re-select 33.0%, ambiguos 27%, suitable employment of amputation is necessary.
6. The psychological change of the post operative patients was 59. 1 % a feeling the frustration.
7. Thirty five percent of amputees who tried artificial limbs were discouraged, but 13% had great hope of using them. 8.3% were throughly discouraged and gave up. There is a need to help those who have received artificial limbs adjust to them.
8. Social adjustment after discharge was found as follows: well adjustment 52. 1%, ambiguos 21.0% impossible adjustment due to physical condition 6%. This should that the physically handicapped could adjust socially if they were encouraged to keep trying.
9. The personal relation is 50.3% of the amputees made friends in the hospital room and those who were not interested in friendship at that time and preferred to remain alone were 21.1%.
10. It was evident that the problem was social maladjustment was maladjustment due to physical condition was 30.8%, isolation was 19.0%. So, psychological rehabilitation in order to utilize their man power resources and increase community activity is necessary. There fore, psychological rehabilitation is necessary in order to utilize their physical resources and to increase community activity.
11. The social requirement those able to do prosthesis who wanted to accomplish represented 30.8%, factory-establishment management even though amputee amounted to 17.6%. There persons discovered that when their handicap worried them and their financial problems became impossible that they could find satisfaction in a job which they could handle and meet their need.
So that these amputees can live in our society, let us develop mays to support them. Lets recognize the need to give new life and opportunity to these people. Lets make new people of these amputees instead of letting them get discouraged cend depressed. We in sincerity lets try to develop positive and creative nursing care plans. For the healing of these the importance of this work.
Also so the patient, his family, the physical therapist, the prosthetists, and the social worker can remain one group working together even after the amputee is released from the hospital let us consider developing some effective plan.
I sincerity hope that the above may be developed, not just as an idea but as a roal and actual fulfillment of a need in our society today.
